Applied Flight Test Engineering Course Series — Objectives and Structure

Academic Flight’s Applied Flight Test Engineering Course Series consists of multiple online flight test engineering courses (and some one-on-one instruction as needed). The primary overarching objective is to add additional value to your existing education as a test pilot and flight test engineer or to help you transition into flight test engineering from another STEM field. The need for additional expertise can arise for a multitude of reasons, because flight test engineering is such a broad field—if you have been to a test pilot school (either as a full professional course test pilot or flight test engineer, or an academic master’s student), you know what we are talking about. Their programs are very intense, but because flight test engineering straddles so many disciplines, not everything can be covered in an optimal amount of detail in the limited time allotted.

Your desire for further education will likely be unique to your individual background, educational opportunity, and workplace situation. This Applied Flight Test Engineering Course Series is designed to provide some of these educational additions.

Our courses take place online, and you can work through them from the comfort of your home at your own pace. The course series will likely take you several months to complete, especially if you do it part-time. This means we can go more in depth on certain aspects, such as modern flight control systems and autonomy, but it also requires you to have a lot of self-motivation, independence, and persistence. Our approach is code based, because we want you to be able to implement, execute, and interface in detail with discipline engineers and data analysts.
