Helicopter Rating

Stability and control of helicopter flight are quite different from fixed wing aircraft, and learning to fly a helicopter can be very instructive, especially if done with the same academic rigor as our fixed-wing instruction. Academic Flight is currently actively working on adding helicopter instruction to its repertoire by the fall of 2020. For immediate referrals, we collaborate with independent instructors Jes Meiris at Palm Beach County Park/Lantana Airport (KLNA) in Florida and Gary Cleveland of Cleveland Helicopter Services at Plymouth Municipal Airport (C65) in Indiana.

At the Indiana location, instruction in an Enstrom 280 FX (pictured on the right) as well as a Robinson R22 and R44 is available. (Availability of the individual helicopters varies during certain times, please inquire with us.)

In Florida, Jes, who is a CFII-RH, can also provide instrument instruction in an R22 and R44 and has access to an aviation training device (ATD) which counts for up to 20 hours towards the instrument rating to reduce cost.

In addition, both Jes and Gary are willing to come to your location to instruct you in your own aircraft.
