Who we are

Our website address is: https://academicflight.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

When you submit a contact form, we collect your first name, last name, phone number, and your email address, so that we can correspond with you. We also collect your flight experience, pilot certificates and ratings, and any other information you choose to enter into the comments field or any other field you use, while filling out the contact form. You are not required to fill in all this information in order to contact us. If you do not feel comfortable filling out a field, simply leave it blank or fill it with a dash (“-“) if the field is required. We are not interested in any information you are not willing to share, and we do not need it.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last either for one year or potentially indefinitely, whichever is longer.

Google Analytics, Search Console, and Facebook Pixel also use cookies as described further below. They track, among other things, returning visitors. These cookies will persist indefinitely (to the extent of our knowledge).

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics and Google Search Console to track visitors on this site and how they arrived through searches on Google. Google Analytics (and Google Search Console) uses cookies to collect this data.

In order to be compliant with the new regulation Google included a data processing amendment (https://www.google.com/analytics/terms/dpa/dataprocessingamendment_20130906. html).

The data we collect will be processed anonymously by Google Analytics and Search Console and “Data sharing” is enabled. We do not use other Google services in combination with Google Analytics and Search Console cookies (at least not to our knowledge).

We also use Facebook Pixel to track visitors and their engagement on our website to improve the efficiency of our advertising (e.g. for conversion ad campaigns). For Facebook’s cookie policy, please see their website (https://www.facebook.com/policies/cookies/).

Who we share your data with

When you purchase a product on academicflight.com, your personal data are shared with well know payment companies, PayPal if you pay via Credit Card.
You can check their privacy policy,
PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/privacy-full (https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/privacy-full)

We do not share any of your personal data actively with Google or Facebook, other than what Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Facebook Pixel collect automatically (via plugins on this WordPress website).

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

While your privacy is important to us, we are no specialists in these matters and therefore as a general rule, you should assume you have no privacy on this website whatsoever. Please share with us only what you absolutely need. We are not interested in your personal, non-anonymized data, but cannot be responsible if you type it somewhere into a form or comment field and it resides there forever. We will try, however, to remove any data you may want to have removed, if it does not require us to hire a professional service to do so.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Also, Google Analytics and Search Console may engage in anonymized data sharing as outlined above.

Changes to this privacy policy

We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy at any time, so please review it frequently. Changes and clarifications will take effect immediately upon their posting on the website. We will not notify you of any changes.
