Prices and Rates

Flight Instructors also have to eat. It would be unfortunate if your CFI fainted in flight due to starvation, wouldn’t it?

Fixed Price Courses

Some of our courses have fixed prices, which include instruction, airplane, aviation training device, etc. In those cases, the prices are indicated directly on the corresponding course page on this website. (The same applies if you have seen one of our advertisements online quoting a fixed price for a course.)

Hourly and Daily Rates

Instruction

If no fixed price is indicated for an entire course, the following hourly instruction rates apply:

One day of instruction constitutes at least 8 hours of instruction (but we are happy to do more if you like, from early morning until late at night). If taught online, a day can also be split into two half days.

Travel

We gladly travel to your location, if you cover our travel and housing expenses (or host us while training in your aircraft). Each day of travel is billed at $250 for our time (this fee can be waived in certain circumstances).

Aircraft Rental

Aircraft rental rates are listed directly on the individual course pages. Academic Flight has access to aircraft at several flight schools across the US, which we partner with and travel to as needed.

We are also happy to instruct you in your own aircraft, if it is in good shape.

Deposit and Refund Policy

A 25% deposit is required for all fixed price in-person courses upon scheduling. This deposit becomes non-refundable if the cancellation happens less than 90 days before training is scheduled to begin. The entire course balance is due at training begin and is non-refundable, once training starts.

Online courses currently have no deposit requirement. Payment is due on the first day of the course.

Free Weekly Office Hours

Coming from academia, we offer free office hours once a week, usually on Wednesday evenings. We provide these as a contribution to the aviation community and as a promotion for our instruction and consulting services.
